Transportation

Bucks County lies in a strategic location between Philadelphia and Princeton, New Jersey, in the southeastern Pennsylvania region. From here in Bucks County, companies transport goods and services not only throughout the eastern seaboard but also throughout the world. Businesses in Bucks County take advantage of a diverse transportation infrastructure with Philadelphia as its nucleus.

Highways
Interstates 95 and 78, the Pennsylvania Turnpike and its Northeast Extension and southbound "Blue Route" connect Bucks County to 25 percent of the total U.S. population in less than a day's drive. U.S. Highway 1 and state routes 309, 313, 611, and 202 traverse the County.

Air
The Philadelphia International Airport lies to the immediate south of Bucks County. Board one of 26 national and international carriers to reach more than 100 domestic and overseas destinations. The Lehigh Valley International Airport to the north in Allentown delivers daily, nonstop departures to all major East Coast and Midwest destinations. These flights connect to virtually every domestic and international destination. Several smaller local airports - three in Bucks County - offer air taxis, charter and private planes. The Bucks County Airport Authority owns and operates the Doylestown Airport and the Quakertown Airport.

Rail
Philadelphia serves as a hub in Amtrak's Northeast Corridor. Commuters take SEPTA - South East Pennsylvania Transit Authority - trains from central and southern Bucks County stations to link with Philadelphia, the corridor and beyond. Conrail hauls freight over an expansive rail network shared by CSX and Norfolk Southern. Local "short-haul" freight rail service is provided by SMS/Penn-Jersey Rail Lines and the New Hope-Ivyland Railroad.

Public Bus Routes
SEPTA bus routes traverse the region, including southern and central Bucks County.

Transportation Management Association
The Bucks County Transportation Management Association (TMA) serves businesses and commuters by creating solutions to gaps in public transit service, thereby offering links between employers, employees and job seekers, in areas that are underserved by SEPTA rail and bus routes. The TMA's shuttles currently include the Street Road RUSH, the Warminster RUSH and the Doylestown DART.

Water
The deep-water Ports of Philadelphia operate from a central position on the east coast. With extensive intermodal facilities, Philadelphia ranks as the world's largest fresh-water port and one of the nation's largest seaports for imported goods.

Ocean-going vessels may also continue up the Delaware River to dock in Bucks County at the Kinder Morgan Port of Bucks County in Falls Township, located within the Philadelphia Federal Customs District. Annually, Kinder Morgan imports approximately 2 million tons of cargo, primarily including steel. The channel depth to Kinder Morgan is maintained at a depth of 40 feet by the Army Corps of Engineers.
