Kreischer Miller’s Manufacturing Industry Group recently completed work on its fifth annual Greater Philadelphia Manufacturing Survey. The goal of the survey was to gauge the economic results and outlook of regional middle market manufacturers and to provide manufacturing executives and leaders a snapshot of business best practices being utilized by their peers or constituents, as well as trends observed, in areas such as human capital, business processes, resource deployment, growth strategies and profitability initiatives.

Lampire Biological Laboratories, Inc. Acquires H.B. Custom Media
Lampire Biological Laboratories, Inc., announced it has completed the acquisition of H.B. Custom Media, based out of the Ben Franklin Tech Ventures Business Center, in Bethlehem, PA. The acquisition includes all equipment, materials and personnel.
Lampire Biological Laboratories, Inc., is a provider of human and animal blood and blood products, OMNI C3 cell culture bags, monoclonal and polyclonal antibody development, manufacturing, and purification services and operates as a Critical Material Manufacturer for a number of fortune 500 companies and their subsidiaries. Lampire offers clients a wide array of products and services fundamental in the fields of drug discovery, compound development and clinical and research diagnostics.
In complement, H. B. Custom Media Inc. (HBCM) is a supplier of custom tissue culture media, reagents, supplements and animal embryo culture media to the Research Use Only (RUO) market for cell culture and the culturing of embryonic stem (ES) cells, both human and animal. H.B. provides the research scientist with the ability to obtain high quality custom tissue culture media and reagents for a lower cost with faster turnaround times and personalized service than the competition.
“The addition of media production to our portfolio will not only augment our Lampire product line, but will enhance our ability to provide industry-leading monoclonal antibody production and tissue culture services to our clients,” said Gregory F. Krug, President of Lampire. “The synergy is clear, and this is a fantastic opportunity for us to continue to expand in this marketplace.”
Karen Hoskins, former CEO of H.B. Custom Media explained, “In order to grow, we needed to grow cGMP manufacturing and expand our infrastructure. Given Lampire’s stature in the industry, it was an obvious choice for us.” The manufacturing of all H.B. Custom Media products will be consolidated to Lampire’s Pipersville Biotechnology Center. Karen Hoskins has joined the Lampire family as a Senior Operations Scientist, focused exclusively on the manufacturing and distribution of our newly released Lampire Custom Media line of products.
The transition is expected to be completed by the beginning of June, 2017. Additionally, all H.B. products will be rebranded with the Lampire name, including updates being made to the labeling, associated documentation and quality control standards.

PECO Investing $3 Million in Tree Trimming to Keep the Lights On for More Than 36,000 Customers in Bucks County
PECO customers in eastern and north Bucks County will benefit from a $3 million investment to trim trees and remove vegetation along 373 miles of aerial electric lines. This project, which will begin in early April, will be completed by the end of July and will improve electric service for more than 36,000 customers.
This work will occur in the townships of Bristol, Falls, Lower Makefield, Newtown, Northampton, Solebury, Upper Makefield and Wrightstown. Work will also take place in the boroughs of Morrisville, New Hope, Newtown, Tullytown and Yardley.
“Vegetation growth causes about one-third of all electric outages,” said Dave Weaver, vice president of Technical Services. “Our comprehensive vegetation management program is vital to safely keeping the lights on for our customers.”
Each year, PECO invests approximately $500 million to enhance its electric infrastructure, including preventive maintenance and equipment upgrades to provide safe and reliable energy to customers. As part of this work, PECO will invest about $41 million in vegetation management work around 3,400 miles of aerial electric lines in 2017.
PECO’s vegetation management crews are trained in arboricultural techniques as defined in the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) A300 Standard. This standard takes into account the type and location of the tree, its relation to overhead equipment and overall health of the tree. Customers are notified before work begins in their area.

Carroll Engineering Corporation Announces New Shareholders

Steven Hartman, P.E. – Mr. Hartman is a Project Manager in the Authority/Municipal Services Department He began his employment with CEC in 2002 and performs project engineering for municipal water and sewer authorities. Over the past few years, Mr. Hartman has completed a number of high profile water/wastewater projects in the tri-county area.
Michael McCarey, P.E. – Mr. McCarey is a Project Manager in the Authority/Municipal Services Department. He has been with CEC since 2007 and performs project engineering for municipal water and sewer authorities as well as investor-owned public utilities. He specializes in water/wastewater infrastructure and wastewater treatment.
Christopher Peterson, P.E. – Mr. Peterson is a Project Manager in the Authority/Municipal Services Department. He began is employment with CEC in 2008 and performs project engineering for a variety of municipal, authority and private clients. His specialties include municipal engineering and storm water management.
