A&L Foods Increases Warehouse Space in Bensalem

A&L Foods is a third generation owned and operated food distributor in operation since 1938. A&L Foods is a unique food distributor specializing in kosher foods with headquarters in Baltimore, MD. Although A&L specializes in kosher foods they also have a diversified selection that includes natural, organic, vegan and other ethnic delicacies. A&L is one of the first distributors to offer a complete institutional vegan and organic program for colleges, hospitals, and corporate campuses.

For over 70 years, A&L Foods has prided themselves on a high level of service which is second to none; next day or same day service or weekend special deliveries. The larger mass merchant chain stores see A&L as their one-stop shop for any customer’s kosher needs. Some of their customers are BJ’s Wholesale Club, Wegmans, Shop Rite, Whole Foods Markets, and Giant Food Stores.

Their customers spread across the country shipping to 35 states; the majority of business is between Virginia and New York. In 2012 they expanded their customer base from Minnesota south to Texas and west to California. With the additional business their warehouses were busting at the seams. They needed to find more space.

A&L has warehouses in Philadelphia and Baltimore as well as one in Bensalem. The main warehouse is in Baltimore. The Philadelphia warehouse was built in 2004 and the Bensalem warehouse was added in 2012. The Bensalem warehouse accommodated the increased business in the north. Andy Lansman, President, A&L Foods likes the Bensalem, Bucks County location for the company’s increasing growth and new business developments. Fortunately for Bucks County, Andy found a larger facility around the corner from the existing one in Bensalem at 1436 Wells Drive.

Andy contacted Jim Pawlikowski, BCEDC Loan Manager, to assist him in securing funds for his new warehouse. Andy and Jim worked on securing a Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority (PIDA) loan to assist Andy with the purchase and renovations of the new building. The new location will be twice the size of the old one and will more than double the perishable and frozen square footage storage. A&L Foods will be creating 13 more jobs for Buck County and retaining 14 jobs.
